AR Awards

Today we had our first AR assembly of the year. We started doing AR at the beginning of the second quarter. 13 students in our class met all three of their AR goals in the second quarter.

Cole and Bethany received awards for participating in the AR program held last summer. Bethany received a t-shirt for making 200% of her goal during the summer!

Rosa Parks Rides the Bus

We practiced this reader's theater and felt that we were doing a very nice job reading it. We made it into an enhanced podcast and decided that we would like to share this with our friends and family. We had fun making it and are proud of our work!

Today we started learning about insects with Mrs. Maurer. We learned that insects have 3 body parts and 6 legs. They also have eyes and antennae. She gave us Play-Doh to make an insect. We had to make sure our insect had all of the parts we had talked about today.

Today we learned how to use a program called GarageBand on the Mac computers. Mrs. Youngblut and Mrs. Maurer only had to show us once, and we were off recording. Today we had fun recording ourselves talking and singing. Earlier this week, Mrs. Youngblut used GarageBand to make two podcasts. Maybe we will be able make our own podcasts soon....

How to Blow a Bubble

After practicing blowing bubbles with bubble gum, we wrote the directions on how to blow a bubble. We also made ourselves using a paper plate and construction paper. We used a balloon to make our "bubbles". We had lots of fun doing this project. Lots of people are stopping to read our directions hanging in the hallway.

Today we practiced writing directions on how to do something. We got a piece of bubble gum to chew and blow bubbles with. We then had to write the directions on how to blow a bubble for someone who had never blown a bubble before. We are going to finish this project next week. As you can see, we had lots of fun blowing bubbles!

Snowflakes, Snowflakes, and More Snowflakes!

Today we used our book Let's Make Snowflakes! to learn how to make our own snowflakes for the bulletin board. We followed the directions in the book and made lots of really neat designs. We learned how to make really cool shapes in the middle of the snowflake. We started out with big pieces of paper and ended up using small pieces. It looked like there had been a paper explosion in our room when we were finished!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Winter in Our Room!

We have a student teacher in our classroom for the next eight weeks. Her name is Mrs. Maurer. She is learning how to be a teacher.

We made paper snowflakes. We learned that we need to follow directions, or you might mess up. It was fun making them. They are hanging from the ceiling in our classroom.

Our awesome snowflakes!

We made a snowman glyph today. The number of body parts tells whether or not we like snow. The kind of eyes tells whether or not we have made snow ice cream. The length of the nose tells whether or not we have ever made a snowman. The mouth tells whether or not we have ever been snowmobiling. The arms tell if we like to wear gloves or mittens. The neckwear tells if we have ever been ice skating. The kind of hat tells which season is our favorite. The buttons tell how many winter activities we like to do.
