Reading is Out of This World!
This year our PTO is sponsoring a door decorating contest for the Scholastic Book Fair. The theme is "Reading is Out of This World". I came across an alien that uses school pictures for alien heads quite awhile ago on Mrs. Pancake's site. I bookmarked it thinking that it may come in handy someday. I think our door turned out great! The students are holding books that are either a book that is one of their favorites or is a type of book they like to read.

Fall Harvest Party
Wow, I haven't posted in way too long. Today we had our fall harvest party. We used vegetables to make these skeletons. I found this idea on Pinterest. They turned out really cute, and the kids had fun making them. The parents appreciated the healthy snack. Almost all of the vegetables were donated by parents which I appreciated very much!
We did have one "not as healthy" snack too. I found these cupcakes on Pinterest too. (Can you tell I love Pinterest??) The kids loved them.
Other than one of the boys having to leave 5 minutes before the party started to go get 4 staples in his head, it was a great day!
Red Ribbon Week
For the first time, our school had a door decorating contest for Red Ribbon Week. I found the idea for our door decoration here and knew I just had to do it. It turned out great! We will find out on Monday if our class had the winning door. I think we have a shot at first place!

I Won, Again - Mrs. Bainbridge's Drawing!!!!
Let me start by saying that I am not usually a lucky person when it comes to drawings. Last night I found out that I had won a Scentsy Teacher Warmer. I was excited. Today I found out I won another drawing. I was doubly excited!!!!
Christina Bainbridge had a drawing for a themed package she had designed. I am changing classroom themes this fall and have used her themed items in the past. I had been checking my new theme out at her online store - Teaching Oasis. I had been debating which items I wanted to order. Now I am going to be receiving the theme pack, thank you card, post card, lesson plan template, award, bookmarks, and a fillable notepad!!!! It truly is Christmas in July!!
Christina has just started a new blog (Mrs. Bainbridge's Class) and also has a wonderful website full of classroom resources and ideas. I have followed her website for a long time and am looking forward to following her blog now. I highly suggest checking them out!!
Thanks, Christina, for the wonderful resources for my classroom.
I Won!

Tangram Bunnies
Today we read the book Three Pigs, One Wolf, and Seven Magic Shapes. It is a story about three pigs setting off to find their fortune. They meet a duck, swan, and bunny who give them each a set of magic shapes (tangrams). The pigs are told to use the tangrams wisely. The first two pigs do not use them wisely, and Big Brad Wolf (twin to the Big Bad Wolf) ate them up. The third pig made a house with her tangram pieces, and the wolf couldn't eat her.
After we finished reading the story, we each got a set of tangram pieces and practiced making the objects in the story: duck, cat, bunny, candle, swan, house, and boat.
Next, we got the seven tangram shapes cut out of Easter scrapbook paper. We had patterns for making three different kinds of bunnies. We made each bunny, and then decided which one was our favorite. We made an Easter picture with that bunny in the picture. You can see our great creations below!
